Since Donald Trump became their party’s nominee for president, the significant number of prominent Republicans horrified by him and what he might do to their party have faced a dilemma: Could they support him while not really supporting him? Could they condemn his more repugnant remarks while still hoping for his election? Could they applaud him for doing things they wanted him to do while still being seen as standing up to him at those moments during which his more egregious character flaws burst forth in all their hideous glory?

The answer to all these questions turned out to be “Sure!”
